🍳 RECIPES

Daksh Cookbook

Practical and reusable Daksh programming patterns for solving common programming tasks.

Quick start

Daksh source files use the .dax extension. The current public implementation runs in the browser through the Daksh web interpreter.

set name = "Daksh" tell "Hello " + name

Variables

Use set for variable declaration and reassignment. Use const for constants.

set name = "Manideep" set score = 95 const pi = 3.14 set score += 5

Data types

The current core includes Integer, Float/Decimal, String/Text, Boolean, Null, List/Array and Object/Dictionary values.

set age = 21 set score = 95.5 set active = true set items = [10, 20, 30] set user = { name: "Daksh", active: true }

Control flow

Conditions

if score >= 90 { tell "A" } else if score >= 75 { tell "B" } else { tell "C" }

Loops

for i in 1..5 { tell i } foreach item in items { tell item }

Functions

function add(a, b) { return a + b } set result = add(10, 20) tell result

Functions support parameters, local variables, return values and recursion in the current interpreter.

Modules

import math import string import list

Current module imports expose the implemented standard-library APIs.

Standard library

Module Current focus
math abs, sqrt, pow, floor, ceil, round, max, min, pi, e
string length, upper, lower, trim, contains, startsWith, endsWith, replace
list length, add, remove, contains, first, last
random number, integer, choice
file browser-safe read, write and download operations
time date/time, formatting, date arithmetic and comparisons
system OS, device, user, architecture, memory, online status and runtime controls

Errors

The interpreter reports Daksh syntax and runtime errors such as undefined variables, division by zero, invalid indexes, invalid assignments and constant modification.

Phase 0 intentionally freezes the core foundation. Some advanced semantics, native memory management and native compiler behavior are future work.
